What am I working on currently? It is usually not just one piece. At any given time, when I am not doing my day job, I work on 2 or 3 pieces together, whether commissioned or for an upcoming exhibition. I am ever so grateful to have that passion and dare I say, gift. It is a cathartic experience. Some caveats, for myself are, not to get too lost in my world, not to forget time, not to get too worried about every slight stroke or shade of colour, not to attempt at correcting every imperfection because as aptly and comfortingly said by the intriguingly talented Salvador Dali: -
“Have no fear of perfection, you will never reach it.”
Hi there, I’m Subitra Dali, I am a Barrister-at-Law, a member of the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn. I was a member of the Malaysian Bar since 1995 until I ventured into corporate practise in 2019 as a Senior Legal Counsel with a multinational bank. At weekends, I indulge in painting, sketching, and drawing. My late Mom was the most important influence as she launched me into the beautiful world of fine art when I was about 7 years old. I vividly remember the first sketch that she taught me. It was a face of a beautiful woman just from imagination. Although, I tried at the time to replicate that face, it did not turn out quite so symmetrical 😊. Nevertheless, I was hooked. She also taught me how to create scenes of landscapes with kampung houses, lakes, and trees, in water- colour.
Although, I am still enamoured by women’s faces and have sketched many portraits for friends and family (hopefully they were satisfied), my interest now has moved towards autumn forests in oil and acrylic mainly. I would say that I am still evolving as an artist but for now my work may be described as contemporary impressionism.
I invite you to explore my website and hope you will find something that inspires you .
